It is very important that defib equipment is looked after and properly maintained so that it is in a permanent state of readiness to deal with a medical emergency.
You must ensure the battery is ‘good’. Low battery power will be indicated by an ‘alert’ or ‘report’ indicator light and / or audible ‘bleep’. Batteries must be replaced on or just before expiry date.
Depending on the particular machine, most AED’s will have battery life of at least two years and some up to five years before they need replacing (this may be considerably less if the AED is used in an extended resuscitation or the AED has been used several times)
The electrode pads also have an expiry date.
The sticky electro-conductive adhesive used to stick the electrode pads to the casualty’s skin dry out with time compromising its ability to work properly.
Therefore electrode pads will last between two and five years (depending on brand and model) until they need replacing.
The expiry date is clearly printed on the electrode pad packaging. The pads should be replaced on or just before the expiry date.
We would always recommend having a spare set of (in date) electrode pads. Defib equipment can be made rescue ready straight away, should it have been used.
The electrode pads are one use only and should be disposed of after use. Some AED’s will report that electrode pads need replacing or are soon to expire on their information display screen.
For replacement batteries or electrode pads please complete the contact form. contact page
Please inform us of the brand and model of your AED.
If you are not sure simply take a photograph of the AED and product information detail (normally found on the back) and send it to us along with the name and address of your business.
We will send out a quote for the items that you require. If the quote is acceptable, we will just need an order number or reference / contact name of the authorising person and we’ll get your equipment out to you as soon as possible (delivery may take one to two weeks depending on stock availability).
We will contact you to confirm receipt of new battery and / or pads and we will also confirm that you have installed them correctly (no faults indicated).
